Nuisance Animals

Below are just some of the many animals that we handle.

Coyote

Coyotes feed on livestock and crops. These animals are a threat to public health and safety. They can kill more than one animal in a single episode, so extreme caution is advised.

Beaver

Beavers are known to chew on tree trunks and cut down scrubby trees and vegetation near small bodies of water. Due to their meek nature, they do minor damage.

Weasel

Weasels, on occasion, raid poultry houses and kill domestic fowls. These creatures are a common threat to farmers or people who own poultry.

Fox

Foxes are a serious threat to poultry animals. They attack small farms that raise any number of poultry like chickens, ducks, and geese.

Mink

Minks are vicious hunters that can strip an entire hen house during a nocturnal raid.  They can swim beneath ducks, pull them under and drown them. They are happy to eat fish as well as meat.

Skunk

Skunks are nuisance creatures known for its foul odor. They like to burrow underground and dig under porches, buildings, or open foundations. In addition, they raid and get into your garbage left outdoors. Worst of all, skunks are rabid animals.

Porcupine

Porcupines are spiked creatures that can strip a bark of a tree bare. They can cause considerable damage to fruits, crops, and small grains. In addition, they can be a threat to house pets such as dogs. Their quills, if not removed promptly, can be fatal to your pet.

Racoon

Raccoons are very destructive creatures. They are known to rip apart ducts, furniture, and wall insulation systems. Additionally, they are known to chew and nibble on wires. They can also be carriers of Rabies so extreme caution should be used.

Bobcat

Bobcats, or more commonly known as “wildcats,” feed on poultry, sheep, goats, house cats, small dogs, exotic birds, and rarely, calves. These animals are a threat if you own any of the animals mentioned.

Otter

Otters that feel threatened, have heavy, muscular bodies and sharp claws that are enough to overpower pets and small children. Otters can transmit rabies to humans and pets. They also endanger residents by attracting coyotes and bobcats to yards.

Feral Cats

A feral cat is a freely ranging wild-living domestic cat that avoids human contact and is not attached to a household. It does not allow itself to be handled or touched by humans, and usually remains hidden from humans. Some feral cats become more comfortable with people who regularly feed them. Even with long-term attempts at socialization, feral cats usually remain fearful.

Feral cats are controlled or managed by various agencies to manage disease, for the protection of native wildlife and to protect their welfare. Control of feral cats can be managed through trapping and euthanasia or other forms of lethal control, or through trap-neuter-return (TNR)

When we get called we trap the feral cats and then work with local shelters to handle the animal in the best way possible.
